About

2017
My challenge for 2017 is simple – produce 12 works that are honest to myself and that I am truly proud of!

2016

I trully welcome 2016 with creative excitement!

I started the year catching up with a few entries to complete from last years challenge so I had to be prolific! I am glad I did it because it set of that fire in me early this year.

I am setting myself the same challenge – one artwork a month for 2016. I will challenge myself further by aiming to use paint for all submitted works ie. Stay away from watercolour instead use acrylic or oils. By the end of the year I am hoping I could create portraits in acrylic, use canvas material and submit at least one oil painting.

I wish you all the best with your creative challenge this year – here’s to 2016! Cheers!

2015

A new year – another challenge to break 🙂

This year I’m setting a more realistic goal of one drawing a month (minimum). That’s at least 12 artworks for the year 2015. Hopefully with this approach I can get to the end of the year achieving my target.

As always, the aim is to continue to pick up new skills – So this year I’ll be focusing on improving my painting techniques and also finally introduce myself to oil painting.  I’ve been given the paints, I just need to use them. Wish me luck!

2014

As a new challenge, I will aim to complete one drawing a week for 2014.  This is a cut down version of the goal I set for myself last year for a more realistic target.

My aim for this blog remain the same, that is to continue to grow creatively, have better control over the mediums I’ve been working with and continue to discover new mediums and techniques. At the end of the year, I want to be a “better” artist (Whatever that means?).

I’ve been lucky to have discovered the world of WordPress and see the different creative flavours from the work of so many talented people! It is inspiring to think that I could add to this pot of creative mix.

I am grateful for your comments, your likes and visits to my site. I use this for motivation when needed.

I look forward to hanging out with you some more and I can’t wait to see what comes out of my work and yours in 2014!

2013

My name is Allan Arcilla. I have always liked to draw but never really got to explore my creative side for work or studies. Professionally I work for a software company and my educational background is in accounting.

In early 2012 I enrolled in a life drawing course.  I enjoyed the creative experience so much that I continued to do the course for the rest of the year.  Life drawing has given me a thirst for an artistic outlet.

Last Christmas I received a leather bound drawing book as a present from my brother. In return, I made him a promise that I will draw something in the book for each day of this year. This will allow me to practise drawing regularly and hopefully develop my artistic skills. At the same time, I am hoping to get inspired to explore my creative side further this year.

As part of my challenge, I will choose a selection of the daily pictures on a weekly basis and post them here to expose my work to the public.

I think as a no vice artist, it is important that I get used to receiving feedback from others apart from the people who knows me well – So please let me know what you think of my work.  Any recommendations on research material that you think is suited for my style or suggestions on useful tools and techniques I could explore just let me know.

Thank you and I hope you enjoy my blog and feel free to leave your comments.

  4. Are you influenced by Egon Schiele? Your drawings make me think of him. Nice works

    • You got it!! I’m obsessed with his work at the moment. I found his style was along the line of how I naturally do my drawings so I’m exploring this further. If only I can do hands and shades the way he does!!! Thanks mate – hope you continue to enjoy the drawings for the rest of the year.

  5. I love your style! It’s very expressive and evokes a lot of feeling. Keep up the great work.
